Hey lovely people. It has been a while since I was here. I hope you are all doing well.

Over the weekend, I traveled to Nanyuki in Laikipia County for the first time ever. It has been in my bucket list that I should visit a game reserve and a national park. The universe answered my prayers.

I visited Ol Jogi Game reserve in Nanyuki county.

‘Nanyuki is situated just north of the Equator (0° 01′ North). Founded in 1907 by British settlers, some of whose descendants still live in and around the town. Nanyuki is currently the main airfield (airbase) of the Kenya Air Force. The British Army Training Unit Kenya (BATUK), has a base at Nyati Barracks. It conducts infantry exercises in Laikipia and on Kenyan Ministry of Defence land at Archer’s Post”. The Equator passes 6.5 km (4 mi) south of Nanyuki. ( courtesy of Wikipedia)

Ol jogi Game reserve is located in Nanyuki ,Laikipia County. It’s a 2 to 3 hour drive from Nanyuki town, along Naibor-Rimuruti road.

It sits on a 53000 hectare piece of land and is owned privately. It has a magnificent view. A perfect place to be when you need to get away from the modern life.

Ol jogi is also a rescue centre for wild animals.

It is home to the only Grizzly bear in Africa. The bear weighs 700 kgs and is considered the most dangerous animal. More dangerous than the lion.

There is a variety of animal and bird life seen seen at Ol Jogi. The big cats; the lion and cheater as well as Elephants, Zebras, Giraffe,Spider monkeys, gazelles, antelopes dik dik, water-buck, Baboons, wild dogs and sniffer dogs.

This was my first time seeing a lion in real life!!

There is a wide range of species of bird . These include owls, parrots,Lilac breated roller, secretary birds, superb starling, yellow billed hornbill and many others not mentioned here.

Owl. It is able to turn its head without turning 180 degrees .

The Reserve offers a magnificent view with the grand canyon crowning it all. It is a natural wonder. I had an adrenaline rush moment hiking in the grand canyon.

At the grand Canyon in Ol jogi. Hiking through the canyon was a lifetime experience.

A canyon is basically a gigantic valley or gorge in the Earth’s surface . It was formed due to erosion primarily by water and second by wind.

The reserve charges KES 800 for Kenyans.

Now, Did you know?

That elephants are the only mammal that cant jump?

A male elephant and his daughter in Ol jOgi.

That cheaters are the fastest land animals but leopards are the most stealthy?

This cheetah was not affected by our presence.

Cheetah have black ‘tear marks’ that streak from the inner corner of their eyes and down their cheeks

Cheetah have spots where leopards have rosettes

Cheetah is the fastest land mammal and is built for speed

Hyenas are not members of the dog or cat families. Instead, they are so unique that they have a family all their own, Hyaenidae

Elephants are the world’s largest land animal! Male African elephants can reach 3m tall and weigh between 4,000 -7,500kg. Asian elephants are slightly smaller, reaching 2.7m tall and weighing 3,000– 6,000kg.

The Grizzly  bear has 3-4 feet in height when it is on all four legs. It can be up to 8 feet tall when it stands on back feet .

I am grateful for this experience. I hope to experience more adventures and let you know about them.

I travelled with Reflex Safaris. Try them out. They are amazing.
